Musiala collapsed twice in four days and required medical attention (PA Wire)

That episode followed a similar occurrence during Saturday’s match against RB Leipzig, though the Germany international has reassured supporters that there is no long-term danger to his health.

  • Amazon Prime captures strain of manager’s final season

  • Club chair says Spaniard threatened to leave ‘100 times’

Pep Guardiola clashed with his captain and almost broke down in tears as he railed at players during his worst run as Manchester City manager.

Guardiola stood down at the end of last season after winning 20 trophies in a 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium. One of the lowest points of his glittering reign came during a testing run in the autumn of 2024, when City lost nine times and won only once in 13 games. Guardiola outwardly showed signs of strain, notably when he scratched his face after City surrendered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League.

  • Right-back worked with Matthias Jaissle at RB Salzburg

  • Sunderland to announce signing of Dayann Methalie

The chance to be reunited with Matthias Jaissle convinced Amar Dedic to swap Benfica for Newcastle in a £29.5m transfer. Dedic becomes Newcastle’s sixth signing of a turbulent summer on Tyneside and the 24-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international is likely to start at right-back at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

“Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me,” said Dedic, who previously played for Newcastle’s new manager at RB Salzburg. “We know each other well; he knows what I can bring to the pitch and I’m really happy to play for him again. It’s a special feeling and a real honour to join Newcastle.”

Today’s gossip is being advertised in imaginative ways

A new Premier League season is just days away, so it stands to reason that a few clubs are getting panicky in the transfer market. Newcastle are certainly in need of some fresh faces after being raided earlier in the summer so, after being linked with Christopher Nkunku, could move for RB Leipzig midfielder Nicolas Seiwald. The Austria international played under Matthias Jaissle at RB Salzburg.

Newcastle have shunned Manchester United’s attempts to snare Lewis Hall, so the Old Trafford club are still in the market for a left-back. Joaquin Seys, 21, of Club Brugge, is said to be a carbon copy of Hall and the Belgian has apparently been shunted to the top of United’s hitlist. Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó is...

Director Joe Pearlman says he expected Real Madrid manager to ‘try to manipulate us’ in making of Netflix series

Even in the hyperreal world of football, there are few characters more compelling, more polarising, or more everything than José Mourinho, the best and worst of public him on full display in a new three-part Netflix series. “It reminded me how good he was,” says Joe Pearlman, who directed Mourinho, and the actual Mourinho is, believe it or not, keen to communicate the same. As he puts it in the show: “I look, you look, I see more than you.”

Making documentaries, though, is often about taking people to the places they’re most skilled at avoiding. “I knew the interviews were going to be very intense,” says Pearlman, “and he was going to try and control the narrative and manipulate us. Everything bad is...

There will be some familiar faces involved in this week’s European qualifiers as a number of smaller clubs have a chance to make their mark

Fenerbahce v Lyon, Tuesday 8pm

Romelu Lukaku is the latest familiar face to rock up at Fenerbahce. The 33-year-old striker is, however, unlikely to be fit for Lyon’s visit to Istanbul on Tuesday – he sat out Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Genclerbirligi, the club his father played for in the 1990s. “This beautiful country is a second home to me,” Lukaku, who spent part of his childhood in Turkey, said last week. Fenerbahce have also added Mason Greenwood and Nathan Aké to a squad that includes Ederson, N’Golo Kanté and Marco Asensio. Failure to get past Lyon, who are aiming to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since reaching the semi-finals in 2019-20, would not be the best start to Ismail Kartal’s fourth spell as head coach.

  • Kevin Lamour said Fifa administration was ‘deceived’

  • Chief operating officer knew he could lose his job

The Fifa chief operating officer, Kevin Lamour, has been sacked after openly criticising Gianni Infantino’s ill-fated plan to sell parts of the World Cup to private investors.

In a significant development at the pinnacle of world football’s deeply troubled governing body, Lamour has departed less than two years after joining from a previous role at Uefa. He had come out strongly against Infantino’s FFE scheme after it was revealed, saying Fifa’s administration had been “deceived” and that the president “believes he embodies Fifa when he is supposed to be at its service”.

Jamie Gittens feels "more confident now" at Chelsea after recovering from a long-term hamstring injury.

The 21-year-old joined Chelsea last summer, but made his last appearance on January 31 after suffering a hamstring injury in a win over West Ham.

Gittens made 27 appearances for Chelsea last season after joining from Borussia Dortmund, though started only 12 of those matches, while scoring once and providing five assists.

Despite his injury and lack of minutes, Gittens completed the fourth-most dribbles (36) of any Chelsea player last season (not including the Club World Cup) and recorded the fifth-most take-on ending carries (45).

Gittens has now returned from injury as he takes part in Chelsea's pre-season campaign, and the winger feels revitalised.

"I'm feeling, I would say, more confident now – in my body as well," Gittens told CFC+.

"The injury that happened [impacted my first season], but I'm feeling better every day. I'm trying to...

Yan Diomande says his move to Real Madrid is the "fulfilment of a childhood dream" as he said farewell to RB Leipzig.

Madrid reached an agreement, reportedly worth up to €140m including add-ons, with RB Leipzig on Thursday, with Diomande signing a seven-year deal with Los Blancos.

He was the subject of huge interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool before Madrid emerged as his likely destination after just one year with Leipzig.

The 19-year-old had made just 10 appearances for Leganes before joining Leipzig at the start of last season, and he played a major role in helping the team finish third in the Bundesliga.

Diomande made 36 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig in all competitions, netting 13 goals overall, in a stunning breakout campaign.

"I am incredibly grateful to RB Leipzig. The club and the management believed in me a year ago, even though I had only played a few professional matches at that point," Diomande...

Fabian Hurzeler is backing Georginio Rutter and Charalampos Kostoulas to make their impact following Danny Welbeck's departure.

Welbeck joined Chelsea on a two-year deal, having finished last season as Brighton's top scorer in all competitions with 14 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions.

Midfielder Diego Gomez was the only other player to hit double figures (10), while Rutter (three) and Kostoulas (two) struggled for form in their limited appearances.

Kostoulas, who scored a stunning overhead kick in the Premier League last term, was given just 532 minutes across all competitions, while Rutter racked up 1,968.

Both have featured in pre-season – and scored – for Brighton, and Hurzeler wants the pair to step up to the plate at the top of the pitch.

"We have two really good strikers, with Georginio Rutter and with Kostoulas, who didn't play that many minutes last season, but who has big potential," Hurzeler told Sky Sports.

"We've...

Diego Forlan has agreed to become Uruguay's head coach on an interim basis, following their dismal World Cup campaign this summer.

Forlan, who will juggle his duties with his commitment to Uruguay's under-20 team, succeeds Marcelo Bielsa.

The 47-year-old will be in charge for the national team's upcoming friendlies this autumn, before a permanent manager is appointed at the end of this year or the start of 2027.

Forlan's appointment comes after Uruguay finished third in Group H at the World Cup, taking just two points from a group that also included Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia.

It meant Bielsa has failed to progress from the group stage in two of his three World Cup campaigns, having also failed to reach the knockout stages with Argentina in 2002.

Uruguay averaged 55% possession at the 2026 World Cup, their highest figure in the competition on record (since 1966) and the first time they have averaged over 50% at a single tournament since 1970...

Mohamed Salah's move to Trabzonspor came as a surprise to Jamie Carragher, as the former Liverpool centre-back believes the Egyptian is too good for the Turkish Super Lig.

Salah penned a two-year contract with Trabzonspor on Thursday, bringing an end to weeks of speculation after he reached an agreement to end his contract with Liverpool early.

After joining the Reds from Roma in 2017, Salah scored 257 goals in 442 games for the club, with only Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285) above him in their all-time charts.

Having previously been linked with several Saudi Pro League clubs, Salah has joined a side that finished third in the Super Lig last season, eight points adrift of champions Galatasaray and five behind runners-up Fenerbahce.

They won their most recent Super Lig title in 2019-20, though the signing of Salah will put them among the favourites to claim the crown in 2026-27.

But Carragher believes the 34-year-old could still play at a...

Antonio Nusa denied rumours suggesting he has handed in a transfer request at RB Leipzig.

The 21-year-old joined Leipzig from Club Brugge in August 2024 and has gone on to score 10 goals and provide 10 assists in 71 games.

Since his debut, Christoph Baumgartner (22 goals, 10 assists) is the only other Leipzig player to record 10+ goals and 10+ assists across all competitions.

And across the last two Bundesliga seasons, Nusa ranks third for dribbles completed (107) and second for take-on ending carries (110), with Michael Olise leading the way in both categories (137 and 144).

Nusa, who also scored for Norway at the World Cup, has been linked with a move away from Leipzig this summer, with Roma reportedly interested in the winger.

However, Nusa claimed he has had no discussions with Leipzig around a potential exit in this transfer window.

"I never made any request to leave Leipzig," Nusa told Sky Germany.

Real Madrid have announced they have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the transfer of Yan Diomande.

Diomande will sign a seven-year contract with Madrid through to June 2033, paying a reported €125m, plus €15m in add-ons.

The 19-year-old emerged as a top target for several of Europe's biggest clubs after an impressive breakout campaign in 2025-26.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool were the first clubs linked with Diomande, before Madrid emerged as the front-runners.

With Diomande's help, Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga, securing Champions League football, as he made 33 appearances in the German top-flight.

Juanlu Sanchez said the attraction of playing in the "best league in the world" was the motivation behind his move to Premier League side Bournemouth.

Juanlu's move to Bournemouth was officially confirmed on Thursday, with the Spaniard signing for a transfer fee that could rise up to £11.2m inclusive of add-ons.

The 22-year-old solves Bournemouth's problems at right-back, having allowed Alex Jimenez to join Fiorentina on loan for the 2026-27 campaign earlier this summer.

He also brings experience to the Vitality Stadium despite his age, having made 109 appearances across all competitions during his five years with Sevilla.

Juanlu appeared 32 times in LaLiga last season as Sevilla finished 13th, while he ranked third for tackles won (42) in the top-flight for his team.

"I am very happy, both for me and for my family. We had a lot of desire to come here and, finally, I can say that I am a player of Bournemouth," Juanlu told the club's website...
