It took overtime against a third-string quarterback, but the Ravens defeated the Steelers this past Sunday to take control of the AFC North. It wasn't a very pretty game for Baltimore -- they turned it over too much and couldn't run the ball -- but in the end it was a road win within the division. You can't have too many of those.

NFL owners are willing to make significant concessions to players on two key issues after their annual fall meeting. According to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, owners are said to be strongly willing to take some disciplinary power away from commissioner Roger Goodell and put it in the hands of an independent arbitrator. There is also a willingness to loosen the league’s marijuana policy. Both of these items have been named as priorities the players want addressed as part of a new labor deal, which the league would like to accomplish by March. It’s not clear if this could lead to player concessions, such as agreeing to a 17-game season that owners want to implement. Goodell’s role as disciplinarian has long been an issue with players. His disciplinary power is enormous, and he essentially has the only say on how players are punished for off-field indiscretions. It’s not clear how big a priority this is for players, but the issue has been lingering for some time, and they would...

Dwayne Haskins has been subject to a lot of criticism during his rookie year with the Washington Redskins, some of it seemingly from within his own organization. Haskins fired back at one criticism in particular on Friday. Amid the chatter about Haskins’ unreadiness to start was talk that he was struggling to read NFL defenses, which he rejected. We don’t know much about Haskins yet. He didn’t look great in his first taste of NFL action, but that was only one game. It doesn’t look like the rookie will get another chance anytime soon, but he’s at least been getting better reviews lately.

Patrick Mahomes suffered what appeared to be a devastating knee injury against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, but the news regarding his timeline for recovery continues to be quite positive. Mahomes underwent an MRI on Friday, and Ian Rapoport and James Palmer of NFL Network report that it confirmed the star quarterback did not suffer any ligament damage. Mahomes will seek outside opinions to be certain, but as of now he is expected to return after a “brief absence.” Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap on a QB sneak in the first half, and Kansas City’s medical staff popped it back into place on the field. Initial reports indicated that he would miss at least three weeks, and it sounds like he has a legitimate chance of returning after a few games. Given the circumstances, the news could not be much better for the Chiefs. They were able to hang on for a 30-6 win with backup Matt Moore on Thursday, and they will hope for the same type of success against the Green Bay...

4 hours 16 min

Despite what’s been a brutal season offensively for Joe Flacco and the Denver Broncos, head coach Vic Fangio isn’t ready to bench the veteran. Rookie Drew Lock, drafted in the second round this past April, will begin practicing next week, but has to remain on injured reserve for eight weeks. So, while Flacco will remain under center at least one more week, it won’t be surprising if the Broncos end up going with the rookie the rest of the way in 2019 if Lock is ready to play. Flacco had an awful night against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, thanks to a brutal performance by his offensive line, which couples very poorly with his inability to evade pressure with his legs. So far this season, he’s completing 65.7% of his passes while averaging 235 yards per game. He has six touchdowns and five interceptions in seven starts, during which time the Broncos have gone 2-5.

4 hours 22 min

Patrick Mahomes left Thursday night’s game against the Denver Broncos with a knee injury that initially looked very serious, but the Kansas City Chiefs are hopeful he will only miss a few games. Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap and is set to undergo an MRI on Friday, which will determine whether or not he suffered ligament damage. While the injury would be far more serious and potentially season-ending if there is structural damage, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that there is “real optimism” that Mahomes avoided that. Mahomes would miss games against the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans if he is out three weeks. Rapoport notes that he may still have some discomfort after the three weeks are up even if he did not sustain ligament damage, so that will be worth monitoring. Mahomes has also tweaked his ankle numerous times this season. The Chiefs were able to hang on for a 30-6 win after Mahomes left the game, but their offense will obviously be...

4 hours 46 min

An MRI on Friday revealed that Patrick Mahomes did not have any ligament damage when he suffered a dislocated knee during Thursday night’s win over the Denver Broncos, which is the best news the star quarterback could have received given the circumstances. Now, the question is how long he will have to sit out. Initial reports on Thursday indicated the best-case scenario for Mahomes would be a three-week absence. However, the Chiefs have four games remaining before their bye, and Albert Breer of The MMQB reports that there is a chance Mahomes could be held out through then. The Chiefs have a tough upcoming schedule with games against the Packers, Vikings, Titans and Chargers. It would be nice to have Mahomes back before the end of that stretch, but they will likely play it safe with their franchise cornerstone. If Mahomes is anything less than 100 percent healthy before the bye, the team will almost certainly give him the extra time to recover. Whether he misses three, four or five...

On Monday ahead of the crucial matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson guaranteed his team would win Sunday. It took all week, but finally on Friday DeMarcus Lawrence responded to that bold declaration. For what it’s worth, both teams enter Week 7 needing a win in a big way. Dallas has lost three straight, and there are rumblings that Jason Garrett is legitimately going to be on the hot seat if the ‘Boys lose. The Eagles have been incredibly inconsistent this year and are tied with Dallas for the division lead with a record of 3-3. The Cowboys didn’t need any extra motivation. Clearly. But Pederson absolutely gave it to them with some bulletin-board material they won’t soon forget.

8 hours 28 min

After a fast start to the season, the Dallas Cowboys have revealed themselves as frauds. It's not hard to figure out why. Once Dallas' competition got tougher, its offense disappeared. A similar performance Sunday at home against the Philadelphia Eagles will be cause for panic. Let's review how the Cowboys, who have lost three straight, got here:  Coming off a Week 3 dissection of the woeful Dolphins, the Cowboys (3-3) were riding high heading into a prime-time showdown against the Saints, who were missing Drew Brees. A win, which would cement their status as NFC favorite, seemed like a foregone conclusion. But the Saints followed a familiar blueprint in a 12-10 win: Stuff Ezekiel Elliott and make Dak Prescott win the game himself. Prescott failed, of course, cementing opinions of those who think he shouldn't be given a contract extension. A quick glance at the Week 5 box score suggests Dallas rebounded well in a 34-24 loss to Green Bay. The numbers lie. The Cowboys fell behind 31...

8 hours 38 min

The highest-profile season in the Chiefs’ 60-year history depended on Patrick Mahomes, with enough help from a reconfigured defense, leading the charge to end a 50-year Super Bowl drought. This prospect took a hit in 2019 when defensive issues again rocked the Chiefs. A  bounce-back defensive effort Thursday in a win over Denver barely registered, however, because Mahomes' knee injury sent the team reeling. An MRI on Friday reportedly revealed Mahomes only suffered a dislocated right knee cap.  But even in a best-case scenario in which he misses three weeks, the injury deals a blow to the snake-bitten, small-market team.  Considering the state of the AFC, Mahomes' injury opens the door to an even friendlier Patriots Super Bowl path. Mahomes stands as the top deterrent to a 12th AFC title for the Patriots. The Chiefs have other issues to navigate before re-establishing themselves as a strong threat to win a January game in Foxborough, but as of this moment, that reality remains in...

9 hours 58 min

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will miss at least three weeks following Thursday night’s knee injury, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport tweets. Mahomes will know more about his situation following an MRI on Friday.  It’s believed that Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap. If there’s no damage, he might only miss a handful of games, so the Chiefs are keeping their fingers crossed between now and the star’s scans. Three weeks would be the best case scenario. The worst case scenario is something that Mahomes doesn’t even want to think about. For what it’s worth, Mahomes is keeping things positive on Twitter: “Awesome team win! Love my brothers! Thank you for all the prayers! Everything looking good so far! #GodisGood #ChiefsKingdom” Even after Mahomes’ exit, the Chiefs managed to hang on and win 30-6 over the Broncos. They’re now 5-2, as they look ahead to the Packers on Oct. 27. For now, Matt Moore is slated to start under center. If Mahomes misses three games, the Chiefs will only have...
