Should Liverpool Be Odds-On to Win the League?
The whole Premier League season could have turned on one incident in the huge match at Anfield between Liverpool and ManchesterCity last Sunday. I’m trying to be objective here in view of my allegiance but it seemed clear that Martin Skirtel handled the ball in injury time.
A converted penalty then would have meant a draw and a three point swing in City’s favour. A win would have become a draw for Liverpool and that could be the difference at the end of the season. However, making Liverpool odds on for the title seems an overreaction.
If Liverpool and Chelsea draw at Anfied the balance then swings back in favour of City who have the slightly easier run-in of the three contenders for the title. They just about matched Liverpool and on their second half performance a point would have been fair.
It could all change again at the weekend and Liverpool must beat Norwich away from home to maintain momentum. They have won ten league games in succession but will probably have to win another four to become English champions for the first time since the 1989-90 season but I still don’t think they should be odds-on.
